See also Improved pngnq and GUI for it.
Improvements
- Better handling of alpha channel when remapping and dithering — very transparent areas are smoother.
- Increased maximum histogram size — color of large images isn't degraded as much.
- Color “averaging” algorithm prefers very bright/dark or saturated colors — images don't look “washed out” as much.
- Added special handling of alpha channel in a few places — transparent areas of the image get less colors, leaving more for opaque areas.
- Command-line arguments don't require number of colors (256 is default) and support special arguments:
--(end of options) and-(read from stdin).
